Acrylic mirrors are reflective thermoplastic sheets with a wide variety of practical, everyday applications. A serviceable and cost-effective alternative to traditional mirrors, JC Finley acrylic mirrors are more durable, more flexible, and about half the weight of their glass counterparts. By comparison, acrylic mirrors are around 17 times stronger than a glass mirror of the same size. Because acrylic mirrors will not shatter or crack under pressure like glass mirrors, acrylic mirror fabrication is a much simpler and safer process. Acrylic mirrors can be cut, shaped, drilled, or bent (with assistance of a strip heater) with relative ease. This versatility makes acrylic mirrors the perfect option for in-home aesthetics, outdoor projects, as well as commercial uses.
JC Finley acrylic mirrors are produced by adding a metal finish to one side of a clear acrylic sheet, then covering the finish with a protective coating. In the case of “two-way mirrors” (one that requires a degree of transparency from one side but not the other), a slightly thinner finish is applied–one that reflects most, but not all, of the light.
Acrylic mirrors can be purchased in a variety of thicknesses and custom cut to your needs. You can also add rounded or routed edges, radius corners, or other alterations to make your sheet safer and more aesthetically pleasing. Acrylic mirrors are highly resistant to stains or smears and can be cleaned with basic household products with ease.
Because acrylic mirrors are substantially more flexible than glass mirrors, you’ll want to make sure that any large sheets are properly affixed to solid and flat surfaces to avoid unwanted bending (if you’ve looked into a funhouse mirror, you’ll understand why).
